Process Servers(Effective July 1, 2005)Penal Code section 11077.1 mandates the State of California Department of Justice accept electronically transmitted fingerprint images from regulatory entities performing background investigations of applicants. The Sacramento County Clerk/Recorder is a regulatory entity that submits fingerprints to the Department of Justice as part of the registration for process servers. If you are a currently registered process server this new requirement will not affect you unless you allow your registration to lapse prior to renewal date. This new requirement will be applicable to first-time registrants July 1, 2005, and any process servers that allow their registration to lapse prior to renewal. An applicant for process server registration will come to the Sacramento County Clerk/Recorder's Office located at 600 8th Street (corner of 8th and F Streets) and fill out an application. At that time the applicant will pay applicable processing fees and be provided with a form to take to a Live Scan location. This office will provide the applicant with a list of Live Scan sites. After Live Scan processing, the applicant will be required to return the completed form to this office. The list of Live Scan sites provides information by location on fees, hours of operation, and if an appointment is needed. Since the fees may vary widely among locations, you will want to review the cost before going to a fingerprinting site and for any payment restrictions such as cash or money order only. For additional information regarding the Department of Justice's new requirements, you may access their website at: http://caag.state.ca.us/fingerprints/index.htm If you have any questions regarding the Sacramento County Clerk/Recorder's process, please telephone (916) 874-1645. |
