March 29, 2010 – Preliminary Notice of Potential Fee Increase
On April 6, 2010, the Board of Supervisors will consider a request from the District Attorney to increase recording fees by $1.00 to augment funding for real estate fraud prosecution programs. If approved, the increase would be effective May 1, 2010. Please read the notice to interested parties for details.

2009

July 2, 2009 – Fee Changes for County Clerk/Recorder Services
Effective July 2, 2009, fees for selected County Clerk/Recorder services will be adjusted in accordance with Sacramento County Code section 2.01.015.  To find out which fees are changing, refer to the Revised Clerk Fee Schedule and Revised Recorder Fee Schedule.

January 1, 2009 – New Law Regarding Marriage Name Changes
Effective January 1, 2009, The Name Equality Act of 2007 (AB 102, Chapter 567, Statutes of 2007) allows one or both applicants for a California marriage license to elect to change the middle or last names by which each party wishes to be known after solemnization of the marriage.  Please read the Name Equality Act Reference Pamphlet for more information.

January 1, 2008 - New Law Regarding Social Security Numbers
Effective January 1, 2008, Section 1798.89 of the Civil Code is added to read:  Unless otherwise required to do so by state or federal law, no person, entity, or government agency shall present for recording or filing with a county recorder a document that is required by any provision of law to be open to the public if that record displays more than the last four digits of a social security number.
