June 24, 2011 – Electronic Recording Comes to Sacramento County
The Clerk/Recorder made recording history in March by accepting and confirming its first
electronically recorded public document. This new process will help expedite recording for
title companies by allowing them to avoid sending paper documents by mail or courier.

August 16, 2010 – Same–Sex Marriages Delayed Indefinitely
The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has put same-sex marriages in California on hold
while it reviews the constitutionality of Proposition 8. Visit the

August 12, 2010 – Proposition 8 Ruling on Same-Sex Marriage
Judge Vaughn R. Walker ruled on the stay of the entry of judgment in the Same-Sex Marriage
case entitled Perry v. Schwarzenegger. The Court denied the request and directed the
clerk to enter the judgment enjoining Proposition 8. However, that judgment is
stayed until August 18, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. Please read the

August 10, 2010 – District Attorney Takes Aggressive Action to Stop Real Estate Fraud
District Attorney Jan Scully announced today the expansion of the DA’s Real Estate Fraud Unit and its aggressive effort to detect, investigate, prosecute and prevent real estate fraud in Sacramento County. April 6, 2010 – Recording Fees to Increase Effective May 1
The Board of Supervisors approved the District Attorney’s request to increase recording fees by $1.00 to augment funding for real estate fraud prosecution programs. The increase is effective May 1, 2010. Please read the notice to interested parties for details.
January 1, 2010 – Law Changes Regarding Married Names The Name Equality Act of 2007 allows one or both applicants for a California marriage license to elect to change the middle or last names by which each party will be known after solemnization of the marriage. As amended by AB 1143 (Chapter 412, Statutes of 2009) and effective January 1, 2010, provisions regarding middle and last names each party to the marriage may adopt have been clarified.
