Marriage Certificates

What records are available?

Sacramento County can only issue marriage certificates for licenses issued in Sacramento County since 1850.  To obtain marriage certificates for licenses issued in another county, refer to the listing of California Counties’ Websites on the California State Association of Counties site to find the issuing county’s web address; or contact the State of California Office of Vital Records.

Certificates of public marriages are available to all requesters.  Certificates of confidential marriages may be obtained only by a party to the confidential marriage (Family Code §509) or court order (Family Code §511).  If you are a party to the confidential marriage, you must submit proof of your identity with your request.
