Acceptable Forms of Payment

Acceptable forms of payment vary depending upon how services are provided.  Please review the following information carefully.

In-Person
Fees for transactions conducted in-person at one of our office locations may be paid by:

  • cash
  • check (personal, cashier’s, certified, or traveler’s) 1
  • credit or debit card (American Express, Discover, or MasterCard only) 2 3
  • money order 1

Mail Orders
Fees for mail orders may be paid by:

  • check (personal, cashier’s, certified, or traveler’s) 1
  • credit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, or VISA) 4
  • money order 1

Fax Orders
Fees for fax orders must be paid by credit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard or VISA). 4

Online Orders
Fees for online orders through VitalChek must be paid by credit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, or VISA). 4


1 Payment must be in U.S. dollars. Make check or money order payable to: "Sacramento County Clerk/Recorder".

2 An additional service fee applies to in-person credit or debit card transactions. For debit card payments, the fee is $2.50 per transaction. For credit card payments up to $50, the fee is $2.50; for transaction over $50, the fee is 4% of the purchase price.

3 VISA credit cards and ATM/debit cards bearing the VISA logo are not accepted for in-person transactions.

4 A processing fee of $6.00 applies to credit card transactions for mail, fax, and online orders.
